Computer Science Capstone Project Receives Venture Capital Funding

A capstone project completed by a group of computer science students, led by Brian Fioca, has attracted venture capital funding from Y Combinator.  The project created a prototype of a web-based time management and analytics tool RescueTime.  Rescuetime automatically tracks on which web sites and in which applications a user spends most of his or her time, and allows users to track and analyze how they spend their time without having to do any explicit data entry.  The other team members were Jarbas Carvalho, Kurt Lee, Franky Maslim, and Anthony Moon.

Since Brian Fioca is based in Seattle, WA, the capstone project, which was supervised by Dr Bob Harbort from the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering, was conducted completely online, with an occasional conference call.  Brian, who transferred to SPSU from Georgia Tech in the fall of 2002, will graduate with a BS in Computer Science (Magna Cum Laude) in December 2007.
