I.            ADVISING SYSTEM

All CS students are required to meet with their respective Advisors. There are three types of students for advisement and registration (Freshman, Transfer, and Continuing Students). Consequently, there are various types of advisors (for new students, for continuing students, and for general advisement).

Every new Computer Science student, either freshmen or transfer, will report to an advisor at the beginning of their academic career at SPSU. Continuing Students should seek periodic advisement from their respective advisor and stay up to date on current changes.

In summary, advisement is broken down as follows:

  1. New Students Advisement (for students entering there first or second semester)

Freshman Advisement

All entering Freshman are required to seek advisement from their designated Entering Student Advisors or from the Student Support Services Office at Orientation and throughout their first two semesters at SPSU. After a freshman student has been placed in the appropriate mathematics course via testing (at orientation) the student can be advised as to a schedule to begin their academic career at SPSU. All Freshman Students must be advised by Entering Student Advisors or by the Student Support Services office (Undergraduate Coordinator or Academic Advisor) located in J393. An initial Plan of Study will be developed.

Transfer Student Advisement

In order to be correctly advised all entering Transfer Students should come to Orientation with all of their transfer credits evaluated. Transfer Students are required to seek advisement before their registration process begins. They can seek advisement from Entering Student Advisors or from the Student Support Services office (Undergraduate Coordinator or Academic Advisor) located in J393. Entering Student Advisors or the Student Support Services office (Undergraduate Coordinator or Academic Advisor) must advise all entering Transfer Students. An initial Plan of Study will be developed.
