Computer Science at the Hochschule Anhalt

Abstract

This talk gives an overview of the teaching process in the CS course at the CS Dept. of the Hochschule Anhalt (FH) - the University of Applied Sciences in Koethen in Germany.

After introducing the Hochschule Anhalt and its CS department itself the talk focuses on issues of curriculum and teaching within CS. It will be explained how projects and practica are organized, how the closed labs are provided and what consequences this raises for starting a Software Engineering program. Finally from this will be drawn some ideas for collaboration between the CS departments of SPSU in Marietta and HS Anhalt in Koethen.

About the Speaker

Gunther Schwenzfeger is a Professor at the CS Dept. of Hochschule Anhalt (FH) the University of Applied Sciences in Koethen in Germany. In the 1980s he worked in the field of mathematics especially in the field of ergodic theory where he got his masters degree in 1985. In the beginning of the 1990s he changed his field of work and research which since then has been Artificial Intelligence. From 1989 to 1993 he was a research assistant at the CS dept. of the University of Halle. From 1990 on his research activities concentrated on knowledge based configuration and case based reasoning. His research was part of the joint research project PROKON (1990-94) which aimed in building a generic tool for building application specific configuration systems and has been funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. From 1993 on he is a professor for AI at the Hochschule Anhalt (FH) in Koethen. His fields of special interest are now Knowledge Representation and Knowledge Based Systems, Case Based Reasoning and Uncertainty Reasoning.
